Weightlifting for a Cause

Monday 17th Dec

Oftentimes in weightlifting, the athletes joke about the ever-present existentialist question of the sport: "Why do we even do this again?" As we throw ourselves under a barbell for hours a day, pushing our bodies to their physical limits near the extremes of exhaustion and it's so easy to question that. When it gets hard our brains want to think about all the reasons we shouldn't or don't need to do this. Barbells for Boobs answers that existentialst question. It gives us a greater purpose. At Academy of Weightlifting, we are not just weightlifting for ourselves. We are working hard every day so we can stand proudly on that platform and raise awareness to help support patients and survivors alike. It's not always at a meet, sometimes that means wearing a BFB shirt in the grocery store and being asked about it, and having others share their personal experiences with breast cancer- their mother or sister or friend. It allows us to raise awareness for not only the cause but to promote the overall purpose that this organization brings to fitness. When we, the athletes of AOW, and donors around the world wear that B on our chests, we stand to remind everyone that breast cancer does not discriminate and that Barbells for Boobs is there to help. I am grateful and proud to be a part of Barbells for Boobs' Academy of Weightlifting. This sport is so much better with a grander mission behind it.
