Our Story

When I was told to come back when I was 40, at that point in time, I thought I was fine. I trusted the doctor. They told me nothing was wrong, but I just felt something was still there and it was getting bigger. This wasn’t normal, and I knew something was wrong with me.

Why Barbells?

The Barbell represents a commitment to health and wellness. It’s a lifestyle. It’s loud. It’s disruptive. It’s a movement.

Health encompasses nutrition and exercise, the only proven way to reduce the risk of cancer. Wellness means advocating for yourself by taking action because no one is immune to chronic disease.

The Barbell also represents a weight being lifted. It represents peace-of-mind.

Through the support of our Programs we’ve impacted over 1,000,000 people and counting, in the form of access to procedures, navigation, connections, and support.

We think of ourselves as more than a non-profit, we’re affecting long-term social change. We’re unorthodox (the word Boobs is in our name) and challenging the status quo. We’re about action, we’re about being proactive, and we’re about raising the bar.

Together with one unified voice, we can make a difference.

We remove the factors of age, gender, income and insurance status that dictate the federal policies and healthcare requirements for screening and early detection programs.

Healthcare professionals can respond to the needs of an individual, without discrimination or guideline restrictions, and change the availability and access for direct services so that breast cancer can be found in the earliest stage possible.
